REAP Tutoring
Race
for Excellence Achievement Program (R.E.A.P.) is an
innovative tutoring program available at the Community House
for kids in 1st through 6th grades
that enhances not only academic skills but life and
character-building skills as well. Structured as a formal
job, children must apply and interview for the program. Upon
being accepted, or ‘hired,’ a job description is formed
between the student, teachers and parents to target the
student’s academic needs. Students meet for tutoring three
times per week. At the end of the week, students have a
‘supervision’ meeting with their tutors, discussing their
performance, engagement and work ethic over the past week.
Based on the review, students receive up to $5.00. This
compensation, in the form of Jane Boyd Bucks, is used to
teach children about saving and budgeting money. Once per
month, children are given the opportunity to ‘purchase’
items from a Reward Catalog.
